FIRE PROTECTION BY FLOCKING
DOSSOLAN 3000 ®
Fibrous flocking
Flocking is a passive fire protection technique that involves spraying insulating material in the form of fibers onto structures. This material, composed of mineral wool, cellulose fibers or other non-combustible substances, is mixed with a binder and sprayed in wet form onto the element to be protected, such as metal beams, slabs or walls. As it dries, it forms an insulating layer that can withstand fire for a given period of time, from a few minutes to several hours, helping to prevent structural collapse and enable occupants to evacuate and firefighters to intervene.
Fibrous flocking is an insulating material made essentially of mineral wool, in gray or white. This process is rot-proof, rodent-proof and pest-proof.
Flock insulation absorbs expansion without cracking, and is applied by spraying. This fibrous process is used not only for thermal insulation and acoustic correction, but also for fire protection, thanks to its fire-retardant properties.
How to achieve a successful fire protetion flocking?
Flocking, a key method of passive fire protection, is implemented with precision and to strict standards. The technique is applied wet: an insulating substance is sprayed directly onto the substrate to be protected, after applying a primer, such as a suitable adhesive, to metal surfaces, or fixing a wire mesh to other types of substrate.
Each step complies with the guidelines of Document Technique Unifié (DTU) 27.1, guaranteeing optimum quality and efficiency. To ensure the material’s adhesion and performance, the ambient temperature during application must be between +5°C and +45°C. By following these guidelines, flocking forms an effective protective barrier, capable of withstanding fire and maintaining structural integrity in the event of a fire.
